I know all filters are not the same and I wanted to make sure I was getting the original that came with the purifier, because it works great.I was very disappointed when it arrived.The filter is a very cheap one made with wire and I am sure it won't work as well.They should not show the logo if it is not the real thing.

(More customer reviews)I have owned this filter for almost a year.Even though it SAYS the filters never need replacing, they DO!After use any HEPA filter that cannot be washed will need to be replaced after particulate matter is drawn deeper and deeper into the existing filters, that being said, as a filter I have loved the effectiveness. Now on to customer service.....

Seeing that the filters are now in need of replacing, I searched high and low for a replacement.Finally emailed their customer service on the manufacturer's page.I was informed that even though they sell the purifiers on the open market, the only way to get the replacement filter was thru them.OK doable.The problem is this:The unit needs TWO filters to replace the existing ones, they are not sold in sets of two.Moreover, the shipping costs as much as the filters if not more, they also do not bundle the shipping on the two filters even though the item REQUIRES two filters.After paying 13.00 EACH for shipping of these filters, you would think that shipping time would be reasonable.Be prepared to wait nearly a MONTH or 15 BUSINESS days.GMAB.Regular mail takes no more than three days to arrive ANYWHERE in the continental US. Are these being shipped directly from India?There is no tracking info provided so you wait a month and keep your fingers crossed that your product arrives.

Had I not paid so much for the unit in the first place, it would now be filling my local landfill in exchange for something more consumer friendly. By next year, it may be.

****Update after a month I contacted the company about the mysterious filters only to be told that they were on BACKORDER.Now where is that landfill.Hopefully the Sharp FPP60CX that I ordered will make this purifier obsolete.Too bad.... really good system just really poor customer service.

Hunter Fan PermaLife Air Purifier - Gray Review

(More customer reviews).....that Hunter has discontinued this product. The "Permalife" filter is anything but permanent, and they are getting harder to get.When you can get them, they run about $90.00 apiece.

I've only had mine since August, and already I've had to change the "Permalife" filter once because it was so clogged up the purifier was bogging down.

Hunter has replaced this unit with the model 30525, which appears to be the same unit but with an available (and cheaper) filter.

This really is an excellent purifier, keeping smoke and cat dander down to nothing, and I love the programming options on it. But I feel a bit cheated because of the "Nonpermalife" filters and it being discontinued so soon after purchasing it.

Caveat Emptor.

Laser Air Quality Monitor Review

(More customer reviews)I bought one of the Dylos monitors several months ago and I was initially quite impressed.I have the more advanced, 0.5 micron model, and it reported count readings that seemed to correlate with time of day (lower reading at night) and activity (e.g. higher reading when I am dusting) However, I was not as impressed after it started to report readings that were inexplicable.For example, after a while, the reading seem to rest on a plateau of about 2200 (which signified bad air quality), whereas before it should normally read 700.I taped a piece filter paper to cover the ingress and the reading will drop to 1700.So I called up Dylos customer and technical support, who were very friendly and helpful.However, the answers I got from them were not entirely encouraging.First, the monitor had no calibrating function.So, if you suspect the reading is too high (as in my case) or too low, you are just left wondering; and of course, once you think a test or measuring tool is suspect, you don't trust/use it!Second, both the ingress and egress of the monitor has no wire gauze to protect insects from getting inside.This is not good, because if an insect got inside and contaminated the lens, the readings would be completely meaningless.Third, worse yet, you are not supposed to open up the monitor (it will void the warranty; laser might injure your eye if you are not careful) to do any cleaning.So, if, over time, cooking grease vapor, say, condensed on the surface of the lens, the accuracy of the reading would be called into question, and you cannot do any meaningful cleaning.Dylos technical support was kind enough to check and service the monitor for me (even though I admitted to having opened the unit), but the monitor still does not work right.

So, as much as I appreciate the good folks at Dylos, who really tried to help me, I just do not find this monitor a reliable tool, due to the design flaws I outlined above, which I hope they would address in a subsequent version.I hope your experience is better.

I took it out of the box only to find out that the unit had a 220V, 2-pin rounded (European) plug.Nowhere in the online ads could I find this detail. I just looked again and still cannot find this in their ads. When I complained to Amazon and ANTonline (the suplier) about the problem, all they could offer was for me to send the unit back.That's not a easy deal with a big, bulky item like this.I ended up purchasing a 220 "step-up" converter for about another $20 with shipping and now it works fine.I wish that I had known about this plug and voltage issue before making the purchase.I might add that this is one of the few times that I've been disappointed with a purchase from Amazon.
